A Prayer for Something New

Do Something New

In life, we often feel like we’re stuck in the past. It can feel as if we can’t move on from who we used to be. Israel felt the same way. God’s communication to his people is always one that brings new hope, new life, and redemption from the past. God is a God of history, but he is also a living God, one who is ready to move forward. He is always moving in a new direction, and it is up to us to follow him there.

Perceive what God is doing with you, consider how it can manifest in your life. God is moving ahead in his good purpose, and he wants you to join him there.

Isaiah 43:18-19

19 Do not remember the former things,

or consider the things of old.

18 I am about to do a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert.

Observations From the Text

  • We are called not to dwell on the past (v.18)

  • God is doing something new (v. 19)

  • God is a way maker (v.19)

  • God brings new life to desolate places (v. 19)

Prayers of Response

God of new things, thank you for bringing newness into my life.

When I was in the wilderness during my season of ______, you were there to help make a way for me. Thank you for doing that once again.

Prayer Requests

Way maker, break through any barrenness and bring your living water in ________’s life today.

When I consider my past mistakes, help me to focus on where you are leading me and your streams of life.

Prayers of Readiness

Bringer of life, I want to perceive what you spring forth today. I want to be a part of something new that you are doing here and now, with my community and with me.

As I spend time with __________ help me to discern how you push us forward to your future.

When I feel stuck in the past, charge me to be present and let me hear from you.
