Introduction
Communities need effective leadership. They need leaders who can discern between good and evil, resolve conflict, and offer sustainable solutions to complex problems. It’s an important role, but it often goes unfilled in the third world because many leaders lack the biblical education needed to carry it out.
In this article, we look at Bombo, a town in Uganda that desperately needed spiritual leadership, and how, by receiving biblical education, leaders were empowered to step up and transform their community.
Leaders in Uganda have been through years of biblical education, developing them to be effective development workers in their community.
Case Study: Transformation in Bombo, Uganda
The community in Uganda had dedicated and faithful leaders, the kind of leaders who wanted to see the best for their people. But there was a problem. They had never had the opportunity to receive a biblical education. This was an issue we couldn’t ignore.
We offered a group of leaders and pastors comprehensive theological training in Bombo. The leadership of Bombo deserved a great education, an education that would form their character and help them approach complex problems with empathy and wisdom.
The changes that resulted in this effort were dramatic. Below are five ways that biblically literate leadership transformed the community in Bombo.
