Sample Course Descriptions
Luke-Acts I
This course explores the writings of Luke in both his gospel and in the book of Acts. The course teaches the student to identify the theological concerns of Luke through an intensive study of the narratives that comprise both books. Luke’s theology will be considered in light of the book of Deuteronomy and the theology of Jeremiah.
Cultural Considerations for Community Development
Utilizing the works of Reinhold Neibuhr and Langdon Gilkey, students will explore the power of culture. Biblical passages that are difficult without cultural understanding are reviewed and the third world concept of honor and shame is taught.
Theology of Community
This course focuses on biblical foundations for the emergence of a faith based in the teachings of Jesus. It will also look at the benefits of the covenant community of Israel and consider its model for Christian community in the present.
